Painting by apaintingaday
Within me a wave has swept up – just now
Some renewal wind has come forth – just now
An uproar has erupted
The beats within have sped up
Same wall somewhere has fallen – just now
Baring everything
Even I am a bit delicate
For this wound is till fresh - even now
What time has healed
Daggers have cut open – just now
Everything obtained
No desire left unfulfilled
Yet I thirst – even now
What river, what ocean, what drink
What is left to be gained?
Yet an emptiness descended – just now
The joining of our melodies
You did not appreciate
A lover of such melody am I – even now
Your silence
The unspoken, the unsung is your beauty
That silence I have come to understand – just now
From some nameless, placeless island of memories
Your voice comes to me – even now
Silent waters disturbed
A stone has fallen – just now
Roaming the unlit streets of this town
Life seeks you out – even now
You body the grave stole
Your soul I saw before me – just now.
Sleep in deep slumber
Those of that heavenly abode
All doors closed, all candles extinguish
Yet a window is open – even now
You, my beloved have awoken already
Yet the night has not passed – just now
The time will come my love
Be patient with fate
For life still breathes within me – even now
Turn me not against life so soon
I am not ready – just now.
Within me a wave has swept up – just now
Some renewal wind has come forth – just now
An uproar has erupted
The beats within have sped up
Same wall somewhere has fallen – just now
- Loose translation of “Dil mein ek Leher” by Nasir Kazmi & English poem (Translation) by K.F.S (me!)
*Often times I am inspired by Urdu Ghazals and though I translate these Ghazals I add my own ideas and meaning to them, which is why they are “Loose translations.” The original Urdu Ghazal is not mine and nor is the original idea. The English poem on the other hand is in my words and is mine.*

"O wave! Plunge headlong into the dark seas,
And change thyself with many a twist and turn;
Thou wast not born for tile solace of the shore;
Arise, untamed, and find a path for thyself."
- Allama Muhammad Iqbal
